Taipei 101

Shortly after we arrived, we headed to Taipei 101. I believe that when we saw it, it was still the tallest building in the world- but that changed shortly after- when the bragging rights shifted to Dubai.

It was hot, hot, hot- over 100 degrees (38 C) and super humid. After looking around the lower levels of the building for a bit, we took the world's fastest elevator (amazingly fast) to the observation floor.

In the center of the observation floor, we were able to see the "Damper Baby"' which is used to help prevent the building from shifting too much in an earthquake.

It was difficult to get a picture of what the damper baby really looks like because the viewing room is narrow. These two shots show the color and texture of the structure.

The view was impressive; although the humidity hanging in the air affected the clarity of the pictures a bit. Here are s few shots looking out in all directions:

To stay cool for a while, we looked around the huge mall in the lower levels first.
